Thrace - Cradle of the Oldest European Civilization
Рубрика: General news Източник:Since 1984, archaeologists have been excavating this cave and have discovered numerous artifacts dating from the Early Paleolithic (1.4 million years B.C.) through the Late Paleolithic (11,500 years B.C.)periods, evidencing human presence in south-eastern Europe that arguably include the earliest traces of Homo Erectus ever found on the European sub-continent.
Findings include stone tools and bone remains of prehistoric game in the lowest sequences, up to the more finely crafted flint assemblages, bone tools and ornaments of Homo Sapiens Sapiens (modern man).
Gold objects have been discovered in many places in Bulgaria. After the necropolis in Varna was discovered and studied in 1972, authorities began referring to the found gold as the oldest known gold crafted by man. For the time being scientists are too keen on keeping in secret the recent find in Thrace holding 15,300 gold pieces.
